Foot swelling  after healing bones

Hi Team, 8 months ago on 9 september my foot ankle broken from 3 parts fallen from top of the floor.My orthopedic  consultant Dr caste plaster for three months .After three months removal of caste my foot is continuously Swelling .Dr told a little bit thickness is increased.He prescribed medicines but it happens to 5 months there is nothing relief from Swelling.I have done foot massage with hot and cold water simultaneously.But not getting any relief.Can anyone suggest exactly what is happening and how will I recover and get relief from this.Thanks

• Contrast bath---It is a form of treatment in which ankle is applied warm water followed by the immediate application of the knee with ice water. This procedure is repeated several times, alternating hot and cold. Note that the treatment should always end in the ice water, as heat will induce the body's inflammatory response, while cold helps to decrease inflammation

Swelling will be there for six months at least , it may take upto two years to recover
