Hello,
I am Dr. Romain Rajan, General Physician (Ex Govt Medical Officer at RML Hospital, New Delhi), and your case has been allotted to me.
Thank you for sharing this. Cuts from stones at the sea shore are considered contaminated wounds, so tetanus protection is important.
Do you need a TT injection?
⢠Yes, if:
⢠You have not taken a tetanus injection in the last 5 years, or
⢠You are unsure about your last tetanus dose
⢠If you have taken a TT or Tdap booster within the last 5 years, no injection is needed now.
Even though it has been 2 days, a tetanus booster is still useful if you are due.
What else you should do
⢠Clean the wounds gently with clean water
⢠Apply an antiseptic locally
⢠Keep the area clean and dry
⢠Avoid walking barefoot until healed
Do you need antibiotics?
⢠Not routinely, if the cuts are superficial, clean, and healing well
⢠Antibiotics may be needed only if there is:
⢠Increasing redness, swelling, warmth
⢠Pus discharge
⢠Fever or worsening pain
When to consult a doctor immediately
⢠If wounds become very painful or swollen
⢠If pus or redness spreads
⢠If you develop fever
⢠If you have
diabetes or poor wound healing
If you tell me when your last tetanus shot was, I can advise you precisely whether you need one now.
For personalised one to one consultation, you can reach out to me on WhatsApp at 85271646 seven seven.
Wishing you quick healing.
Dr. Romain Rajan
