Pain in the foot and calf that appears mainly while resting at night and improves after getting up and walking can occur with nocturnal muscle cramps or sometimes restless legs syndrome. Restless legs typically causes uncomfortable sensations while resting, especially at night, with temporary relief on moving the legs.
For now, adequate hydration, gentle calf/hamstring stretching before bed, regular activity and gentle massage or warmth may help.
Next Steps
Since this has been occurring for a week, if it persists or keeps disturbing sleep, consult a physician/orthopaedic doctor for examination. Depending on the history, evaluation for iron deficiency, medication-related causes or other metabolic/neurological causes may be considered
Health Tips
If the pain is mainly in one leg and is associated with new swelling, warmth, redness/discolouration or tenderness, seek prompt medical assessment to rule out a DVT (blood clot). Sudden breathlessness or chest pain requires emergency evaluation.
