After thyroidectomy with tracheostomy, the duration of tube removal (decannulation) varies. There is no fixed number of days—it depends on recovery of airway and breathing. At ~20 days post-op with SpO₂ 94–96%, things are stable, but tube removal is considered only when: • Airway swelling has completely settled • Patient can breathe comfortably through natural airway • Secretions are minimal and manageable • Cough is strong enough to clear secretions
