Thank you for your question. An ectopic pregnancy in the fallopian tube is most often caused by an infection in the tube causing a tubal block. This tends to happen on both sides. The patient is not impotent. The patient can conceive with one tube but the risk of an ectopic pregnancy in that tube is higher than normal.
