Double marker test is done to calculate the risk of chromosomal abnormalities in the fetus..its a probability test..it is advisable by doctors all over the world..
However it is not necessary to undertake this..you can also directly go for a triple or quadruple test later...
Most patients dont want to take any chance and hence do both these tests thus increasing the sensitivity and specifity of both..
