Does using nightguard cure TMJ disorder?

2023-11-22 01:56:26
Does wearing a nightguard/mouthguard help to reduce TMJ disorder and Jaw popping, Jaw Deviation? Most doctors suggest braces treatment for TMJ disorder but if I don't want to go for that, are there other non-invasive treatments? I already follow soft diet and apply warm compress. Kindly suggest some remedies.

Dental Braces are infact a non invasive way of treatment for TMJ disorders. If it improves your health , you should consider it seriously. Yes,night guard can also help relieve some of the symptoms. But usually it is a combination of treatments that is needed. I would suggest start the treatment with patience and follow all the appointments till the Dentist says so. Many patients unfortunately start treatment when the problems become unbearable. When pain or clicking sounds decrease in jaw. They decide that they had enough treatment.  But the joint doesn't think so. The health deterioration starts again. Hope this helped. .

Alternate warm and cold compresses helps to reduce tmj pain But if your occlusion is disturbed braces or aligner treatment should be taken for bite correction. Clinical checkup along with exrays are required for detailed assessment

Soft diet n warm compress along with  night guard ll reduce the TMJ pain mostly in minor cases. But this doesn't works in severe TMJ problems.u said that doctors suggested u braces ,there might be a problem in ur bite n teeth alignment. The major cause for TMJ problem should be evaluated n treatment is based on severity. U need physical examination .
Next Steps
regular intake of calcium tablets daily once .

Hi, If you have a disturbed occlusion, then alignment of teeth will help reduce the chances of TMJ disorders. If you have a habit of grinding your teeth unconsciously, then a night guard will work. Are you having any pain or discomfort around the joint area? Please share an OPG to get an idea of your TM joint and also of your teeth position.
