Do I have ADD?

As I've been home for a lot of months and away from college I was able to sit back and understand myself. People call me lazy and I believed that I am but I couldn't point out any real reasons as to why I'm lazy. So I started noticing my actions and realised that I have almost 0 focus. I'm not able to concentrate on anything. I've noticed this once I was in school while studying but I just brushed it away 'cause I'd fail most exams and was busy facing its repercussions. I believe that I know more than the average Joe but I just can't put up the marks or anything to back my claims. Now I've come to an understanding by reading anecdotes of people who are struggling with ADD and I get that they're all going through stuff like myself. Usual problems that I face include failing to learn anything because I'll start engaging with my phone. So I uninstalled Instagram and yet everytime I find more ways to distract myself. Any new hobby that I'd picked up lasts for a day at best. Pls help.

Thanks for reaching out. With what you have briefed, it seems like you have problems with motivation and low self esteem rather than ADD. ADD usually starts way early in childhood and it doesn't really go unnoticed. You'd expect the person to constantly 'run by the motor' rather than unmotivated. Parents are more likely to bring it to the notice of a health professional. You typed about your problem effectively, articulating every thought. You must be functioning relatively well though it may not be to your maximum potential. Let's not label the situation. Once you start to feel more in control with yourself, things will begin to change. It's possible with some medication. All the best. Dr. Pavani Narukurthi MD Psychiatry MindfulTMS Neurocare Gk2 delhi
