Cleft palette & smoking

I was born with a cleft palette, and I heard that smoking cigarettes could potentially like open it up again or something? Is that true? If i smoke cigarettes, will it affect me considering I was born with a cleft palette? And would it have immediate or long term effects?

Smoking can cause cleft palate in your child and can cause a lot of other long term effects for you. Better to stop.
