Cholesterol-High.

My father recently had a routine check up, where we found that he has High Cholesterol. His total cholesterol is 215 which is high, Cholesterol direct is 135 which is high and non HDL cholesterol is 167.5 which is also high. His Lipoprotein (A) is 7.8 which is normal and he does not have blood sugar. SGOT is 37.5 which is a little high(normal range is less than 35). Should he start with any Cholesterol medication? If so what should he the dose? He is already taking medication for hypothyroidism. Family Doctor told to start with Tonact 5 for 1 month. Should we start with this?
