Can't stop thinking about my ugly face

2026-08-14 10:47:40
I was born with a birth mark like thing on my right cheek and my nose is also large. I was pointed out this throughout my childhood and initially i didn't notice but slowly i started paying attention. And now it's all i think about. Even if people say i should stop worrying about it, i can't move forward. I constantly feel jealous and unhappy that everyone else looks fine but my face is totally asymmetrical, weird and i hate that I'm unable to accept it. I get extremely anxious of going out especially if i know people might take photos because if i see them then i get really down and i start zooming in and feeling bad the whole night. I have told my family i want to surgically fix my face but they are not ok with it, even I'm worried about pain and what if doesn't go well etc. I feel trapped because i can't accept myself and that's wrecking my nights and sometimes i feel fine and suddenly if i see my own reflection i go back to feeling depressed, i just hate myself. Please help

Thank you for sharing this. It sounds like concerns about your appearance have become quite overwhelming and are affecting your confidence, social situations, and emotional well-being. Therapy can help you understand where these concerns come from, work on patterns of comparison and repeated checking, manage the anxiety around photographs and appearance, and gradually build a healthier relationship with yourself. It may also be helpful to explore these concerns before making any permanent decisions regarding your appearance. I would recommend discussing this with a psychologist in a safe and non-judgmental space.
Health Tips
A few small tips you can add: * Try not to zoom in or repeatedly check photographs. * Reduce mirror-checking when you notice it increasing your anxiety. * Take a short break from appearance-focused social media or comparisons. * When a critical thought comes up, remind yourself: “This is a thought, not necessarily a fact.” * Shift your attention from how you look in a moment to what you are doing and experiencing.
