Baby stool is having white strands

My 6 month baby has passed stool for 4 times in 6 hrs today. Also, his stool is having so many white strings like structures. We've strated solids since 15 days but it's happened for the first time. He is having cough and cold and we're giving him doctor's prescribed medication. What could be the reason for this ? Is there anything to worry about?

Nothing to worry about. Changes in colour and consistency of stools is due to starting new foods. It will slowly get better

As soon as baby turns 6months of age we start solids..so there is a change in routine diet which is reflected in the stools hence the changes you see..this is normal and don't worry...this transition period will last for atleast. A year where baby will have change in stool consistencies...warning should when baby has excessive watery stools...then consult. Cough and cold is also a normal response and need not be medicated as new stuff has been introduced to the baby so body s way of reacting. Don't worry your baby is absolutely fine

The “white string-like structures” you are seeing are most commonly: 1. Mucus During cold and cough, babies swallow mucus. That mucus can come out in stool as white, slimy, string-like material. This is very common. 2. Undigested food Since you started solids recently, some food may not digest completely and can appear as whitish strands. It is usually not worms at this age, especially in a 6-month-old baby. When not to worry: * Baby is active * Feeding well * No blood in stool * No persistent vomiting * Urine output normal What you should do: * Continue breastfeeding or formula normally. * Give ORS in small amounts if stools are loose. * Continue prescribed medicines for cold. * Avoid introducing any new solid for a few days. See a doctor urgently if: * Blood in stool * Green watery stools many times * Fever * Baby becomes dull * No urine for 6 hours * Signs of dehydration (dry mouth, sunken eyes) Most likely this is mucus due to cold and mild gut irritation, and it settles in 1–3 days.
