It can be controlled with immune modulators and regular usage of sunscreen . It has to be multi disciplinary approach where in rheumatologist and dermatologist would play an active role in keep the symptoms at bay. Many systems are involved including skin , musculoskeletal, renal and neurology so one has to keep a close watch for symptoms along with lab values to have near normal life style. Do stick to a doctor you trust and don’t keep on changing them as continuation of treatment is more important than changing doctors for illusion of cure. Good luck to you and your aunt.
