You most probably had a panic attack. The unreal and detached feeling is called dissociation/ derealisation/depersonalisation. This happens due to sudden experience of shock/fright as our body produces too much stress hormone (adrenaline) . There are several other symptoms that happen in a panic attack but the fear of dying/losing control is very consistent with all panic attacks. This is completely treatable and wont harm you physically. Meditate and take rest. Reduce stress in life. Please visit a Psychiatrist for appropriate treatment if it doesn’t subside.

Its a panic attack can have symptoms like patient feels restless, palpitations and feels he will die now that’s impending doom. This can be treated with cognitive behaviour therapy and medication. Try breathing exercises and relaxation techniques. Seek psychiatrist help to prevent and treat it.

It is most likely panic attacks a type of acute anxiety if all the medical work up is normal. You need to consult a psychiatrist and take treatment for the same. It is easily treatable. Good luck.
