Are transvaginal ultrasounds safe

Hello, I had a transvaginal ultrasound done to detect early pregnancy (5 weeks). And I got it done at a diagnostics lab instead of at the clinic. I saw many patients with so many problems get it done before me. I saw the radiologist used a new condom on the probe and some gel. But I have been having severe anxiety that it could have transferred other people's infections to me as the scan is internal. The probe has been through many people. How would I know it's safe. I often felt safe at the clinic as only pregnant women would get it done, and not people with other infections or conditions.
