Based on your history and the X-ray, this looks like a significant ankle inversion sprain, most commonly involving the lateral ligaments (ATFL/CFL), and X-rays often appear normal in such injuries persistent point tenderness over the bone even after swelling reduces can be due to a bone bruise ligament avulsion or occult (hidden) fracture which may not show on initial X-rays the fact that you can walk is reassuring, but localized sharp pain is not normal and needs further evaluation an MRI of the ankle is the best test to assess ligament damage, bone bruise, or small fractures until reviewed avoid sports, continue ankle support ice after activity and limit weight-bearing to pain tolerance
