Hello, My 9 month old has suddenly started refusing breastfeeding. He eats solids thrice a day, drinks water, has enough wet diapers, drinks formula but bites during breastfeed and refuses. What to do?

This is normal and occurs for few days. Not to worry. Offer milk in quiet places without any distraction. As he is already on solids milk should not replace solids. So you can limit milk to around 600 mL.even if he bites the nipple let him have his scheduled milk time but make sure the flow of milk is normal and swallowing of air doesn’t happen. Burp the baby well after feeds.

Greetings sudden breastfeeding refusal at 9 months is a common temporary phase called a nursing strike rather than self-weaning. The biting behavior and refusal are often triggered by teething discomfort or an underlying minor illness like an ear infection. To protect your milk supply and prevent engorgement, ensure you pump or hand express at your normal feeding intervals. Try offering the breast in a quiet, dark room with minimal distractions, or when your baby is drowsy or waking up. When he bites, calmly say "no," break the suction with your finger, and offer a cold teething toy before nursing. Keep feedings completely low-pressure without forcing the latch,

A sudden refusal like this, often called a nursing strike, is very common around nine months and usually isn't about your milk supply. Teething pain, a cold or ear ache, or biting followed by your own reaction to it can all make your baby pull back from the breast. It's rarely permanent, and most babies return to nursing within a few days to two weeks.
Next Steps
Try offering the breast when your baby is calm and sleepy rather than hungry and frustrated, in a quiet room with fewer distractions. Keep expressing your milk during this time to protect your supply, and keep offering at every feed even if he refuses.
Health Tips
See your pediatrician if your baby also runs a fever, seems unwell, or his wet diapers and feeding drop off. That combination points beyond a simple nursing strike.
