Abscess at home treatment
4-5 days ago my boyfriend went to the ER because a cut on his knee became an abscess. It was lanced, & gauze was packed inside the wound. They sent him home w/ a kit to remove & replace the gauze himself a couple days later, When he went to remove the gauze, the wound had closed over it & he couldn't get it out. Is there something we can do to reopen the wound & remove the gauze or does he need to see a doctor immediately? Thank you so much for your time.

Yes visit the surgeon to get it removed. A gauze can get infected and lead to sepsis. Promptly visit a physician
