PRP Therapy in Chennai

What is PRP Therapy?

A three-step medical process in which an individual’s blood is drawn, processed, and then injected into the scalp is PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma). Few medical communities think that PRP triggers natural hair growth and maintains it by increasing hair supply to the hair follicles and hence increases the thickness of the hair shaft. This process can also be combined with other hair rejuvenating techniques such as hair loss procedures or medications.

What is the process involved in PRP Therapy?

There are 3 steps involved in PRP therapy that can be carried out 4-6 weeks apart:

  • Step 1 - the blood from the forearm is drawn and kept in the centrifuge to separate the blood composition of different densities.
  • Step 2 - after 10 minutes of the centrifuge, the blood will be separated into 3 layers of platelet-poor plasma, platelet-rich plasma, red blood cells.
  • Step 3 - platelet-rich plasma is drawn into a syringe and injected into the scalp areas where hair needs to be regrown.

What are the side effects of PRP Therapy?

As the blood is injected into one's own scalp, chances for side effects are less. However, few of the side effects are:

  • Blood vessels or nerve injury
  • Infection
  • Calcification at the site of injection
  • Scar tissue formation

When is PRP Therapy contraindicated?

If the patient is suffering from any of the following conditions, then PRP Therapy can be contraindicated:

  • Chronic or acute infections
  • Cancer
  • Liver diseases
  • Skin diseases
  • Hemodynamic instability
  • Hypofibrinogenemia
  • Metabolic disorder
  • Platelet dysfunction syndrome
  • Systemic disorder
  • Sepsis
  • Low-platelet count
  • Thyroid disease

However, apart from the above conditions, if the patient is on blood thinners or a heavy smoker or has a history of alcoholism or drug abuse, he/she is not an ideal candidate for PRP Therapy.
