A branch of medicine that deals with the medical care of infants, children, and adolescents is Pediatrics and the doctors who are specialised in Pediatrics are called Pediatricians.
A 5-year medical degree [MBBS] that is recognized by the General Medical Council and a 2-year foundation course of general training are the basic requirements for an individual to be a doctor. However, following are the specialties or extra qualifications required to be a Pediatrician:
If an individual is having a baby of age between 1 and 4, then he/she should visit a Pediatrician twice a year. If the baby or child is above 4 years fo age, then he/she must visit a Pediatrician once a year.
Pediatricians are the medical doctors who diagnose and treat diseases, medical conditions, and injuries that require care for babies, children, and adolescents. However, Neonatologists are the one who takes care of newborn babies, particularly those who are ill or born prematurely.
Asthma is an inflammatory disease of the airways of lungs that cause whooping, coughing, tightness of the chest, and shortness of breath. So, Pediatrician can diagnose asthma in children or babies and can prescribe medications. However, if the disease condition is worsening, then pediatrician may refer the patient to the specialist doctor who is well experienced in treating asthma.
Pediatricians can diagnose and plan an appropriate treatment for early stages of cancer in children, babies, and adolescents. However, if the condition of cancer is worsening, a Pediatrician may refer the patient to a well-experienced Oncologist.
In most of the cases, a General Pediatrician will not perform any surgery to diagnose or to treat a medical condition. However, a pediatric Surgeon may perform surgeries in order to treat and cure some of the diseases, infections, and medical conditions.
