Pessaries are soft devices that are inserted in the vagina. They are usually used to provide support to the vagina, uterus, bladder or rectum. They may also be used for the delivery of medicines to treat infections or as birth control. Pessaries may cause a whitish discharge.

Douching increases the risk of vaginal infections, sexually transmitted infections and pelvic inflammatory disease that can reduce the chances of getting pregnant. Douching also increases the risk of cervical cancer and pregnancy-related complications such as miscarriage, early childbirth and ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy growing outside the uterus).

Curd is rich in lactobacillus—a probiotic that is good for vaginal health and can fight off harmful organisms. It is believed that eating one cup of curd per day can reduce white discharge caused by yeast infections. This remedy, however, continues to be debated.

Normally, all women experience a little amount of white discharge. Abnormal white discharge that occurs due to infections or irritants is treatable.

If you experience abnormal white discharge due to infections like trichomoniasis, gonorrhoea or chlamydia, your partner also needs to get treated. Confirm with your doctor if it is advisable to have sex during treatment. Treatment for the male partner is generally not needed for bacterial vaginosis and yeast infection.
