1. What are pessaries?
Pessaries are soft devices that are inserted in the vagina. They are usually used to provide support to the vagina, uterus, bladder or rectum. They may also be used for the delivery of medicines to treat infections or as birth control. Pessaries may cause a whitish discharge.
2. Why can douching be harmful?
Douching increases the risk of vaginal infections, sexually transmitted infections and pelvic inflammatory disease that can reduce the chances of getting pregnant. Douching also increases the risk of cervical cancer and pregnancy-related complications such as miscarriage, early childbirth and ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy growing outside the uterus).
