A neurologist is a medical expert who treats conditions related to the central and peripheral nervous system, spinal cord and the brain.

Both neurologists and neurosurgeons are trained to diagnose diseases of the nervous system which includes the brain and the spine. However, neurologists do not perform surgery, they can treat with medicines and refer to neurosurgeons.

Neurologists commonly treat disorders such as headaches, epilepsy, tremors, sleep disorders, Alzheimer's disease, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Parkinson's disease to name a few.

One should visit a neurologist if they have complaints of dizziness, convulsions, repeated headaches, migraines, or problems with vision, memory, gait and movement.

Neurologists usually work in hospitals, out-patient clinics and some may even have their own private practice. Some neurologists may even be part of a team of physicians and surgeons of other specialties or even engage in research work.
