Epilepsy is a neurological (central nervous system) disorder in which the regular activity of the brain is disturbed. There is abnormal activity of brain cells, causing episodes of unusual behaviour and sensations, known as seizures. This kind of seizures can affect any process that your brain coordinates.

An epileptic episode can be identified by symptoms such as getting confused, not knowing where they are, sudden rubbing of hands, jerky movements of hands and legs, the person complains of noticing strange smell and taste. Overall there are unusual body movements and the person may also collapse due to severe jerking movements of the limbs with frothing at the mouth.

Epilepsy is not curable, but medications can control the frequency and intensity of seizures. The person can lead a near-normal life and remain seizure-free with medications.

Epilepsy can't be cured, but seizures are controlled by anti-epileptic or anticonvulsant drugs. These drugs reduce excessive electrical activity in the brain; thus, episodes of seizures are controlled. Surgery can be done if there is any mass or tumour in the brain that is causing the convulsions.

The common side effects of epilepsy drugs are irritability, nausea, drowsiness, clumsiness, memory changes, rashes, blurred vision, and stomach upset. Very rarely there might even be a drop in white blood cells, and liver damage may occur.
