Meditation is a routine practice wherein an individual focuses on a particular thought, activity, or object to redirect one's thoughts and also to train the mind to concentrate. It can, thus, help in enhancing the overall health and well-being of an individual.

The process of meditation can be used to manage various health conditions such as depression, anxiety, insomnia, heart diseases, memory loss, circulation problems and pain. It can also improve mental health by stress reduction, developing concentration, helping to live in the moment, increasing self-awareness and learning to be calm as well as patient.

Some of the meditation techniques are:
focused meditation - wherein there is use of your five senses to improve attention, such as by focusing on your breath
movement meditation - to calm your mind by gentle motion such as yoga, gardening, qigong, etc.
mindfulness meditation - to have greater awareness of your thoughts without any judgment
mantra meditation - chanting to focus your thoughts

Meditation can be useful in reducing stress by focusing your attention and getting rid of your thoughts that are leading to stress. Furthermore, meditation can be used for effective management of health problems that are worsened by stress such as high blood pressure.

Yoga and meditation are not the same techniques. Yoga is, in fact, a form of meditation which involves performing different postures and breathing exercises to increase the concentration, calm the mind, and improve the flexibility of the body.
