Risks associated with acupuncture include bleeding, bruising, infection from unsterilized needles, damage to internal organs, and in very rare cases, puncturing of the lungs.

Before acupuncture visit, avoid a heavy meal, coffee, alcohol and other stimulants before the procedure. Wear loose and comfortable clothing during the visit.

As the term acupuncture suggests pricking of a needle, one may feel a slight sting at the site of needle puncture.
