1. What is vertigo?
Vertigo is described as a feeling of whirling and loss of balance, especially while looking down from heights, or due to a condition that affects the inner ear.
2. What causes vertigo?
The commonest causes of vertigo are Meniere's disease; head or brain injuries; migraines; and inner ear diseases, such as benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, vestibular neuritis, inflammation of the labyrinth or vestibular nerve.
3. How is vertigo different from motion sickness?
In motion sickness, there is a feeling of imbalance and lack of equilibrium caused in a moving car or boat. In vertigo, the person may also have abnormal eye movements, nausea, vomiting and abnormal sweating.
