Shirodhara (shiro=head and dhara=flow) is an ayurvedic treatment strategy in which oil is poured on the forehead of a person slowly in constant motion.

Shirodhara helps to

(4) Reduce the effect of ageing
(5) Improve hearing and vision

Shirodhara is done in the morning or the evening for the best impact. It starts with a body massage called abhyanga wherein the patient lies down, and this is followed by pouring 2 litres of lukewarm oil is on the forehead of the patient slowly and continuously.

Shirodhara is beneficial for a patient who has blood pressure, insomnia, anxiety, stress, hypertension, fatigue, tension, headache and depression.

Sesame oil infused with herbs is traditionally used in shirodhara. The type of oil may vary depending upon body type and dosha of a person. The other alternative oils to be used are coconut oil and olive oil, or sometimes it may be milk or buttermilk
