Trimetazidine

Description

Trimetazidine is used in combination with other drugs for the symptomatic treatment of stable angina pectoris, chest pain caused by decreased oxygen supply due to reduced blood flow to the heart. This medicine is used when patients do not respond adequately to other agents or are intolerant to first line anti-anginal agents.

Allergy

Use in pediatrics

Drowsiness

This medicine may cause drowsiness. It is advised that you do not perform any activities that require high mental alertness such as driving a vehicle or operating heavy machinery during treatment with this medicine.

Hypotension

Trimetazidine may cause hypotension. This risk is especially higher in patients undergoing treatment with high blood pressure medicines. Close monitoring of blood pressure and appropriate dose adjustments may be required based on the clinical condition.

Geriatric use

Caution is advised while using this medicine in elderly patients above the age of 75 years due to the increased risk of severe adverse effects. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition.

Therapeutic use

Use of this medicine as a first line agent for unstable angina or heart attack is not recommended. This medicine is also not indicated for use as a curative treatment for angina.

Missed Dose

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed one.
