Starlium 10 MG Injection is an anticonvulsant medicine, which is used to relieve the symptoms of seizures, anxiety, muscle spasm, and alcohol withdrawal. It is also used for sedation in surgical procedures.

Allergy

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma since it may worsen the patient's condition.

Suicidal thoughts

This medicine may cause suicidal behavior in some patients. This risk is especially higher on the prolonged usage of the medicine. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition.

Withdrawal symptoms

Abrupt discontinuation of this medicine may increase the risk of severe adverse effects, especially if you have been using a high dose for a long duration. A gradual dose reduction is recommended to avoid these reactions. Do not stop the use of this medicine without consulting your doctor.

Drug dependence

This medicine has the potential to cause drug dependence and abuse. This risk is especially higher if the medicine is used for a prolonged period of time. Patients should be monitored closely for any change in mood and behavior during treatment with this medicine. Abrupt discontinuation is not recommended since it may cause withdrawal symptoms. Withdrawal of therapy should be done gradually with close monitoring.

Concomitant use of opioids

Coadministration of diazepam and opioids like morphine, codeine, tramadol, hydrocodone, or any cough preparations containing these medicines should be avoided since it may increase the risk of sedation, breathlessness, coma, and death. Appropriate dose adjustments are to be made if coadministration is needed and monitoring of sedation, breathlessness, and hypotension is necessary.

Paradoxical reactions

The use of this medicine in psychiatric patients and pediatric patients with hyperactive aggressive disorders may cause paradoxical reactions, including excitability, irritability, aggressive behaviour, agitation, nervousness, hostility, anxiety, sleep disturbances, nightmares, and vivid dreams. Close monitoring for signs of a paradoxical reaction during therapy with this medicine is recommended.

Driving or operating machinery

This medicine may cause dizziness or drowsiness in some patients. It is advised that you do not perform any activities that require high mental alertness like driving a vehicle or operating machinery if you experience any of these symptoms during treatment with this medicine.

Use in obese patients

This medicine should be used with caution in obese patients with careful monitoring of symptoms. An increase in dosing intervals might be necessary in some cases. Close monitoring of the patient's condition, while receiving this medicine. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required in some cases based on the clinical condition.
