Description

Torsemide is a diuretic which is used to control high blood pressure and edema. It is usually taken once daily, preferably in the daytime to prevent sleep disturbances. Do not take this medicine if you have a known allergy to it.

What is it prescribed for?

Edema

Torsemide is used in the treatment of edema which is a swelling due to the accumulation of fluid in the hands, feet, and ankles.

Hypertension

Torsemide is used in the treatment of hypertension which is an increase in the blood pressure caused by fluid overload due to genetic and environmental factors.

Torsemide should be used with caution in the patient's suffering from this condition due to an increase in the risk of electrolyte imbalance. Close monitoring of electrolytes is necessary.

Hearing problem

Torsemide may increase the risk of developing a hearing problem when rapid intravenous injections are given. You should avoid taking other medicines that may cause hearing problems.

Volume depletion and Electrolyte imbalance

Torsemide may alter the blood volume levels and electrolyte levels. This may cause dizziness, dry mouth, and acid-base imbalance. Close monitoring of blood pressure and electrolyte levels is necessary. The medicine should be discontinued if these symptoms appear. Restart taking this medicine when lab tests are normal.

Missed Dose

The missed dose should be taken as soon possible. It is advisable to skip the missed dose if it's already time for your next scheduled dose.
