Propafenone

Description

Propafenone is an anti-arrhythmic medicine which is used to treat life-threatening heart rhythm disorders. It belongs to a group of medicines called Class 1C antiarrhythmic agents.

What is it prescribed for?

Atrial Fibrillation

This medicine is used to maintain normal heartbeats and prolong time to recurrence of atrial fibrillation (an irregular and rapid heart rate that causes poor blood flow) in patients without structural heart disease.

Atrial Flutter

This medicine is used to maintain normal heartbeats and prolong time to recurrence of atrial flutter (the abnormally rapid rhythm of the heart) in patients without structural heart disease.

Ventricular tachycardia

This medicine is used to treat ventricular tachycardia, a fast heart rate that originates due to the abnormal electrical activity in the lower chambers of the heart.

Paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia

This medicine is used to treat paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, a heart condition characterized by an abnormally fast heartbeat that originates above the ventricles.
