Description

Powergyl Syrup is a combination medicine that consists of Ofloxacin and Ornidazole. It is used for the treatment of diarrhoea (loose and watery stools) caused by bacteria and parasites in children. This suspension helps to treat diarrhoea due to mixed infections. However, this combination is banned for use in India due to its serious side effects. Powergyl Syrup has some side effects like the metallic taste in the mouth, headache, breathing difficulty, stomach pain, nausea and vomiting. Consult your doctor if any side effects persist or bother your child. Do not give Powergyl Syrup if your child is allergic to it. Powergyl Syrup should be used on your doctor's prescription only. This suspension can be given either before or after meals. For the ease of remembering, give this medicine to your child at the same time every day. Once you start using this medicine for your child, ensure that the entire course of treatment is completed. Powergyl Syrup may not be suitable for all children. Inform your paediatrician about your child’s complete medical history, including any previous episode of allergy, birth defects, heart, lung, gastrointestinal, liver or kidney problems before using this medicine.

What is it prescribed for?

Diarrhoea of mixed infection

Diarrhoea is a common condition that occurs in most children. It is characterized by abnormally loose or watery stools more than 3 times a day. Antibiotic resistance

Finish the entire course of treatment with Powergyl Syrup, even if the condition of your child gets better after taking few doses, to avoid antibiotic resistance (a condition where microbes evolve mechanisms that protect them from the effects of antibiotics). Also, inform your doctor if the diarrhoea does not stop even after finishing the full course of treatment.

Dehydration

Diarrhoea or loose stools can cause dehydration (loss of water from the body). Therefore, make your child drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration.
