Description
Potentox 625 mg Injection is a combination medicine used to treat a variety of bacterial infections of the lungs, skin, abdomen, and blood caused by E.coli, Streptococci, Enterococci, etc. This medicine is known to cause serious kidney problems and hearing problems, especially in the elderly population. Hence, it should be used with extreme caution in elderly patients as well as in patients with kidney diseases.

What is it prescribed for?
Intra-abdominal Infection
This medicine may be used in the treatment of intra-abdominal infections such as peritonitis, appendicitis, intra-abdominal abscess, etc. caused by bacteria such as E.coli, Streptococci, Enterococci, etc.
Pneumonia
This medicine may be used in the treatment of pneumonia, which is a common type of lung infection caused by bacteria such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, etc.
Bacteremia
This medicine may be used in the treatment of bacteremia, which is an infection of the blood caused by Staphylococci, Streptococcus pyogenes, etc.
Bone and Joint infections
This medicine may be used in the treatment of bone and joint infections such as septic arthritis, osteomyelitis, etc. caused by Staphylococci and Streptococci species.
Pyelonephriits
This medicine may be used in the treatment of Pyelonephritis which is a type of kidney infection caused by E.coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterococci, and Klebsiella pneumoniae.

Driving or Operating machinery
Use of this medicine may cause blurred vision or drowsiness in some patients. It is advised that you do not perform any activities that require high mental alertness like driving a vehicle or operating machinery if you experience any of these symptoms during treatment with this medicine.

Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea
Avoid if you experience severe diarrhea after receiving of this medicine. As antibiotic therapy will cause an imbalance in the normal microbial flora in the large intestine which promotes the growth of bacteria called clostridium difficile.
Neurotoxicity
Use of this medicine may increase the risk of serious adverse effects like encephalopathy, seizures, and nonconvulsive status epilepticus. These reactions may occur in patients with impaired kidney function with no proper dose adjustment.

Caution is advised while using this medicine in patients below 18 years of age due to the increased risk of kidney injuries.
