Description
Phena-P Syrup is used for the treatment of fever and minor body pain due to common cold in children. It also provides relief from allergic symptoms due to common colds like runny nose, sneezing, cough, redness of the nose, and watery eyes in children. Phena-P Syrup stops the release of a chemical called prostaglandin that causes pain and fever and also histamine responsible for causing allergic symptoms.
Side effects of Phena-P Syrup are dizziness, sleepiness, diarrhoea, nausea or vomiting. However, Phena-P Syrup is banned for use in India due to its severe adverse effects.
Phena-P Syrup can be taken with or without food. Children with a sensitive stomach should take this medicine with food to prevent stomach discomfort. Administer Phena-P Syrup at around the same time every day. If your child vomits this medicine within 30 minutes of administering it, then repeat the dose again.

Allergy
Avoid using Phena-P Syrup in children who are previously allergic to it. Seek immediate medical attention if there are any serious allergic symptoms such as skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or breathing difficulties.
Severe liver impairment
Children with liver diseases need special dose consideration for Phena-P Syrup. This medicine gets converted to its active form in the liver. Therefore, in large amounts of this medicine, more active forms are formed which can damage the liver. The use of this medicine is generally not recommended in children with severe liver diseases because it can further increase the risk of liver damage.

General warnings
Skin rash
Phena-P Syrup may cause serious skin allergies without any warnings. These events may be fatal in rare cases. Signs and symptoms like rashes, hives, fever, or other allergic symptoms should be reported to the doctor immediately. The treatment should be discontinued if these symptoms appear.
Chronic malnutrition
Malnutrition can increase the risk of Phena-P Syrup toxicity in the body. Dose adjustment should be done based on body weight in children.
Missed Dose
Administer the missed dose of Phena-P Syrup as soon as you remember. If it is almost the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed dose.

Long-term use of Phena-P Syrup may increase the risk of irregular heartbeat in children with pre-existing heart conditions or heart rhythm disorders. Heart function needs to be monitored in such patients.
