Description
Pedispan Syrup is used for the treatment of fever and minor body pain due to common cold in children. It also provides relief from allergic symptoms due to common colds like runny nose, sneezing, cough, redness of the nose, and watery eyes in children. Pedispan Syrup stops the release of a chemical called prostaglandin that causes pain and fever and also histamine responsible for causing allergic symptoms.
Side effects of Pedispan Syrup are dizziness, sleepiness, diarrhoea, nausea or vomiting. However, Pedispan Syrup is banned for use in India due to its severe adverse effects.
Pedispan Syrup can be taken with or without food. Children with a sensitive stomach should take this medicine with food to prevent stomach discomfort. Administer Pedispan Syrup at around the same time every day. If your child vomits this medicine within 30 minutes of administering it, then repeat the dose again.

Allergy

Severe liver impairment
Children with liver diseases need special dose consideration for Pedispan Syrup. This medicine gets converted to its active form in the liver. Therefore, in large amounts of this medicine, more active forms are formed which can damage the liver. The use of this medicine is generally not recommended in children with severe liver diseases because it can further increase the risk of liver damage.

Chronic malnutrition
Malnutrition can increase the risk of Pedispan Syrup toxicity in the body. Dose adjustment should be done based on body weight in children.

Children with asthma may experience allergic reactions while using Pedispan Syrup. Hence it is not recommended for use in children with asthma, especially those who had experienced allergic reactions with the use of this medicine.

Long-term use of Pedispan Syrup may increase the risk of irregular heartbeat in children with pre-existing heart conditions or heart rhythm disorders. Heart function needs to be monitored in such patients.
