Description
Olcefone-AB-Plus Tablet is a combination medicine which may be used used to treat a variety of conditions like urinary tract infections, lung infections, skin infections, etc caused by bacteria in patients who are at risk of antibiotic-associated diarrhea. This medicine is not recommended for use in case of common cold, flu or viral infections since it is active against the infections caused by certain bacterial species only.

What is it prescribed for?
Urinary Tract Infection
This medicine may be used in the treatment of urinary tract infections caused by E. coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterococci, and Klebsiella pneumoniae in patients who are prone to antibiotic-associated diarrhea.
Lower Respiratory Tract Infection
This medicine may be used to treat infections of the lower respiratory tract including bronchitis, pneumonia, etc. caused by susceptible bacteria in patients who are prone to antibiotic-associated diarrhea.
Skin and Structure Infection
This medicine may be used in the treatment of Skin and Structure infections such as cellulitis, wound infection, and cutaneous abscess caused by susceptible bacteria in patients who are prone to antibiotic-associated diarrhea.

Allergy
This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a known allergy to Cefixime, other beta-lactam antibiotics, Ofloxacin, other fluoroquinolones, lactic acid bacillus or any other inactive ingredients present in the formulation.
Tendinitis or tendon ruputure
This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a history of tendon rupture or tendinitis (a condition in which the tissue connecting muscle to the bone becomes swollen and red) since it may worsen the patient's condition.
Myasthenia gravis
This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a history of myasthenia gravis since it may worsen the patient's condition.

This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless absolutely necessary. All the risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before taking this medicine.

General warnings
Tendinitis and Tendon ruputure
Use of this medicine may increase the risk of developing tendinitis or tendon rupture during the treatment or several months after the treatment. This may affect your shoulders, hands, ankles, or other parts of your body. You are at a higher risk if you are more than 60 years of age or if you have undergone a transplant of kidney, heart, or lung. You are also at a higher risk if you are on corticosteroids such as dexamethasone, methylprednisolone, or prednisone. Report any unusual symptoms to the doctor immediately. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary based on the clinical condition.
Drug-resistance
Usage of this medicine without sufficient proof or suspicion of a bacterial infection should be avoided. Irrational dosing might fail in providing the benefits and even cause toxicity. It may also increase the risk of development of bacteria that are drug-resistant.
Driving or Operating machinery
Use of this medicine may cause dizziness or lightheadedness in some patients. It is advised that you do not perform any activities such as driving a vehicle or operating machinery if you experience any of these symptoms during treatment with this medicine.
Photosensitivity
Use of this medicine may make you more sensitive to sunlight or tanning lights. You are advised to use sunscreen and wear protective clothing to avoid adverse reactions to sunlight during treatment with this medicine.
Bleeding disorders
This medicine should be used with caution in patients with bleeding disorders due to the increased risk of excessive bleeding. Regular monitoring of prothrombin time is necessary in such cases. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition.
Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed one.

How it works
Cefixime works by interfering with certain processes that help the bacteria to grow and increase in number. Ofloxacin works by inhibiting an enzyme required for the bacterial DNA to replicate, thus inhibiting bacterial cell division. Lactic acid bacillus restores body-friendly micro-organisms in the intestines.
