Salicylic acid works by softening and loosening the dry, scaly, or thickened skin, causing shedding of the outer layer of the skin. Benzoic acid relieves skin irritation and swelling caused by skin infections. Menthol provides a cooling sensation to the skin and thereby relieves irritation, itching, and burning. Starch helps to moisturize the skin.
