Description

Misoprost 25 MCG Tablet is an effective antiulcer medication used to prevent the secretion of acid in the stomach. It is primarily used to prevent ulcers caused due to non-steroidal pain medication. This medicine can cause uterine contraction and is sometimes used for labor induction and termination of pregnancy.

What is it prescribed for?

Duodenal Ulcer

Misoprost 25 MCG Tablet is used to prevent and relieve the symptoms of ulcers caused in the upper parts of the small intestine.

Gastric Ulcer

Misoprost 25 MCG Tablet is used to prevent and relieve the symptoms of ulcers caused in the food pipe and stomach.

NSAID induced ulcers

Misoprost 25 MCG Tablet is used to prevent and treat ulcers caused due to use of non-steroidal pain medications like diclofenac, ibuprofen etc.

Induction of labor

Misoprost 25 MCG Tablet is used to induce labor in pregnant women.

Postpartum bleeding

Misoprost 25 MCG Tablet is also used to prevent and treat bleeding that happens after delivery.

Cervical ripening

Misoprost 25 MCG Tablet is also used for relaxing and softening the cervix prior to the onset of labor contractions.

Termination of pregnancy

Misoprost 25 MCG Tablet is also used to terminate or abort a pregnancy which is less than 49 days. It is used in combination with other medications and requires a doctor's supervision for the process to happen efficiently.

Bacterial infections

Use of this medicine has been reported to cause bacterial infections in some patients. Any instance of infection after using this medicine should be informed to the doctor.

Excessive bleeding

Use of this medicine has been associated with excessive bleeding in some patients and hence any such instance should be reported to the doctor.

Uterine rupture

This medicine has been associated with cases of uterine rupture when used for labor induction in some cases. Caution is advised while using this medicine if the patient is in the late thirties and beyond or the delivery is cesarean.

Diarrhea

Use of this medicine can cause diarrhea and hence should not be coadministered with other diarrhea causing medications.

Severe anemia

Use of this medicine is not recommended for women with severe anemia.

Other disease

The safety and efficacy of this medicine is not established for patients suffering from heart disease, diabetes, kidney impairment or respiratory disease. Hence, caution is advised in such cases.

Use in smokkers

This medicine should be used with caution in patients who are heavy smokers as the risk of adverse effects is significantly higher.

Use in pregnancy

This medicine can cause birth defects, abortions and other serious complications if given to pregnant women. Hence, use of this medicine for treatment or prevention of ulcers is not recommended. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy in near future.
