What is it prescribed for?

Vitiligo

This medicine is used with light therapy for the treatment of vitiligo, a skin condition characterized by loss of skin color in patches. It stimulates melanocytes (melanin forming skin cells) to move up the hair follicle and to repopulate the epidermis.

Psoriasis

This medicine is used in combination with UVA light therapy for the treatment of psoriasis, a skin disease characterized by excessive scaling, dryness, rashes, and itching of the skin.

Driving and operating machinery

Aging of skin and skin burning

After receiving treatment with this medicine and ultra-violet light, further exposure to sunlight and/or ultraviolet radiation may result in premature aging of the skin as well as serious burns. Patients should take all precautionary measures, as advised by the doctor, including covering the skin, using a sun blocking agent, wearing sunglasses, etc. in case they need to go outdoors.

Carcinogenicity

The use of this medicine and ultraviolet radiation therapy significantly increases the risk of cancer. This risk is especially higher in patients with a previous history of cancer or radiation therapy. All the risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before using/receiving this medicine.

Use in children

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients less than 12 years of age. However, even for patients under the age of 18 years, it should be used only if the benefits significantly outweigh the risks and only under the supervision of a healthcare professional.
