What is it prescribed for?

Hypertension

This medicine is used in the treatment of hypertension which is a condition with an increase in the blood pressure caused by a fluid overload due to genetic and environmental factors.

Congestive Heart Failure

This medicine is used in the treatment of congestive heart failure characterized by the decrease in the blood flow to the body parts.

Edema

This medicine is used to remove water that accumulated in the hands, feet, and ankles associated due to cirrhosis of the liver, and renal disease

General warnings

Severe liver injury with cirrhosis and ascites

This medicine should be used with caution in the patients suffering from liver diseases such as severe liver injuries, cirrhosis, ascites, etc. since it may worsen the patient's condition. Close monitoring of electrolytes levels and liver function is recommended for such patients. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition.

Volume depletion and electrolyte imbalance

This medicine may alter the blood volume and electrolyte levels in some patients. This may cause dizziness, dry mouth, and acid-base imbalance. This risk is especially higher in patients suffering from kidney and liver diseases. Close monitoring of blood pressure and electrolyte levels is recommended for such patients. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition.

Hearing problem

This medicine may increase the risk of developing a hearing problem when rapid intravenous injections are given. This risk is especially higher in patients receiving other medicines which may cause an adverse effect on the hearing.
