Description

Gudcef Plus Tablet is a combination of Cefpodoxime and Ofloxacin. It is an antibiotic used for the treatment of typhoid fever and respiratory tract infections (infections that affect various organs involved in breathing). Gudcef Plus Tablet works by killing the bacteria, thereby preventing the further spread of infection. Gudcef Plus Tablet shows side effects such as diarrhoea, stomach pain, headache, nausea, and vomiting. Contact your doctor if any of these side effects persist or worsen. Avoid driving vehicles or operating machines as this medicine may cause dizziness. Avoid taking this medicine if you are allergic to it. Gudcef Plus Tablet can be taken with or without food. For the ease of remembering, take it at the same time every day. Ensure that your complete the course of treatment for better results and to prevent re-infection. Avoid taking Gudcef Plus Tablet without consulting your doctor. Unnecessary use of this medicine may cause the bacteria to become resistant to antibiotics. Gudcef Plus Tablet should be avoided if you have tendinitis (a condition that causes swelling of the tissues that attach bones with muscles) or myasthenia gravis (a condition that causes severe weakness and fatigue of the muscles under voluntary control). Inform your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems. Gudcef Plus Tablet is not recommended for use in children below 18 years of age. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, or are breastfeeding.

What is it prescribed for?

Respiratory Tract Infection

Respiratory tract infections (RTIs) are infections that affect parts of the body involved in breathing, such as the sinuses, throat, airways, or lungs. Gudcef Plus Tablet is used for the treatment of respiratory tract infections such as: 1. Pharyngitis and tonsillitis: Infections that cause swelling and soreness in the throat and tonsils. 2. Sinusitis: The swelling of the tissues of your sinuses (hollow spaces located behind your nose and cheekbones, between your eyes, and at the lower end of your forehead). 3. Bronchitis: The swelling and irritation of bronchial tubes that regulate air passage in the lungs. 4. Pneumonia: An infection in the air sacs of one or both lungs.

Typhoid fever

Typhoid fever is an infection caused by Salmonella Typhi bacteria. The symptoms include high fever, diarrhoea, vomiting, etc. Gudcef Plus Tablet is used for the treatment of typhoid fever.

Myasthenia gravis

Myasthenia gravis is a serious condition characterized by severe weakness of the muscles under your voluntary control, including the arms and legs. Gudcef Plus Tablet is not recommended for use if you have myasthenia gravis as it may worsen your condition and cause further muscle weakness.

Diarrhoea

Gudcef Plus Tablet can cause diarrhoea as it may also kill the helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine. Inform your doctor if you experience severe diarrhoea while taking this medicine.

Drug resistance

Complete the course of treatment with Gudcef Plus Tablet even if you feel better after a few doses to avoid antibiotic resistance (a condition in which the bacteria develops the ability to defeat the antibiotics intended to kill them).

Missed Dose

If you forget to take Gudcef Plus Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is time for the next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take two doses together to make up for the missed dose.

Central nervous system disorders

Gudcef Plus Tablet may cause tremors (involuntary muscle contraction leading to shaking movement), restlessness, anxiety, confusion, seizures (sudden, uncontrolled brain activity causing fits), etc. Hence, Gudcef Plus Tablet should be used with caution if you have seizures or other central nervous system abnormalities (conditions related to the brain and spinal cord).

Colitis

Gudcef Plus Tablet can kill the helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine and cause diarrhoea. Gudcef Plus Tablet should be used with extreme caution if you have any stomach and intestinal problems, particularly colitis (swelling of the inner lining of the large intestine) as it may worsen your health condition.

QT Prolongation

QT prolongation is a condition in which your heart muscles take a longer time to recharge between a heartbeat. Gudcef Plus Tablet should be used with caution if you have heart problems as this medicine may cause QT prolongation.

Impaired kidney function

Gudcef Plus Tablet is filtered by the kidneys and excreted through urine. A damaged kidney can lead to its accumulation and toxicity. Hence, Gudcef Plus Tablet should be used with caution if you have kidney problems as it can increase the risk of kidney damage.

Impaired liver function

Gudcef Plus Tablet may increase liver enzyme levels. Hence, this medicine should be used with caution if you have liver problems as it can increase the risk of liver damage.

Coombs test

The Coombs test is performed to find certain proteins that attack red blood cells. The presence of these proteins indicates a condition known as haemolytic anaemia (a condition that occurs due to the abnormal breakdown of red blood cells). Gudcef Plus Tablet may give a false-positive result when the coombs test is performed.
Take Gudcef Plus Tablet with or without food as instructed by your doctor. Avoid taking more or less than the prescribed dose. Ensure that your complete the course of treatment even if you feel better after a few doses to prevent the risk of re-infection that would be difficult to treat in the future. Consult your doctor if you experience any undesirable effects that persist or worsen. Gudcef Plus Tablet may cause diarrhoea. However, it should subside after your stop taking the medicine. If it does not subside or if you detect blood in your stools, contact your doctor.

How it works

Gudcef Plus Tablet is a combination of Cefpodoxime and Ofloxacin. Cefpodoxime works by preventing the formation of the bacterial cell wall (protective outer covering of the bacteria). Thus, it kills the bacteria. Ofloxacin works by preventing the bacterial cells from multiplying and stopping their growth. Eventually, it kills the bacteria.
