Description

Gramocef-CV Dry Syrup is a combination antibiotic medicine used to treat various conditions such as urinary tract infections, ear infections and lung infections caused by bacteria. This medicine is only effective in infections caused by bacteria and not from viruses or fungi. This medicine stops the growth and multiplication of bacteria and kills them. This medicine is not recommended for use in children less than 10 years of age. The common side effects of Gramocef-CV Dry Syrup are nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, etc. Seek medical attention if any of these side effects persist or worsen. Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to it in the past. Ensure to complete the course as directed by your doctor. Sudden discontinuation may affect the potency of this medicine. Gramocef-CV Dry Syrup can be taken with or without food, same time every day. Discuss all your known illnesses and active medications with your doctor before taking this medicine. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding mother before starting the therapy. Your doctor may advise you of some tests to make sure whether this medicine is working properly or not.

What is it prescribed for?

Uncomplicated urinary tract infections

Uncomplicated urinary tract infection is a condition in which the lower part of the urinary system got infected but there is no functional abnormality of the urinary system. This disease is most common in females due to the small urethra. Gramocef-CV Dry Syrup is used to treat this condition.

Upper respiratory tract infections

Upper respiratory tract infection is a condition in which the upper respiratory parts (nasal cavity, nostrils, throat and voice box) gets infected by bacteria. Gramocef-CV Dry Syrup is used in the treatment of upper respiratory tract infections caused by bacteria where the causative organism is known or suspected to be resistant to other commonly used antibiotics.

Tonsilitis/Pharyngitis

Tonsilitis is the swelling and redness of the tonsils and pharyngitis is the swelling and redness of the throat (pharynx). Gramocef-CV Dry Syrup is used in the treatment of tonsillitis and pharyngitis caused by Streptococcus pneumonia, Streptococcus pyogenes bacteria, etc.

Acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis

Acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis is an acute worsening of airways with impaired lung functions. Chronic bronchitis is an inflammation (swelling) of the lining of the bronchial tubules, caused by Streptococcus pneumonia and Haemophilus influenza bacteria. Gramocef-CV Dry Syrup is used to treat this conditions.

Gonorrhoea

Gonorrhoea is a sexually transmitted disease caused by unprotected sex with an infected person. It affects both men and women genitalia. Gramocef-CV Dry Syrup is used in the treatment of gonorrhoea caused by Neisseria gonorrhoea bacteria.

Acute bacterial otitis media

Acute bacterial otitis media is the swelling and infection of the middle ear. It occurs as a result of a throat infection, cold or respiratory infection. General warnings

Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhoea

Discontinue the use of Gramocef-CV Dry Syrup as per the doctor's instructions if severe diarrhoea occurs after receiving this medicine. This medicine may cause an imbalance in the microbial flora of the large intestine, decreasing the gut-friendly bacteria and promoting the growth of a bacteria called Clostridium difficile, resulting in severe diarrhoea.

Bleeding disorders

Gramocef-CV Dry Syrup should be used with caution in patients suffering from bleeding disorders due to the increased risk of excessive bleeding. Regular monitoring of INR is necessary in such cases.

Antibiotic resistance

Incomplete course of Gramocef-CV Dry Syrup may cause antibiotic resistance (ability of bacteria to defeat the antibiotic). Ensure to complete the entire course even if you start feeling well.

Missed Dose

Take the missed dose of Gramocef-CV Dry Syrup as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume at the scheduled time. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed one.

Overdose

Colitis

Caution should be exercised while taking Gramocef-CV Dry Syrup in colitis. It may increase the risk of diarrhoea and severe and life-threatening colitis. This medicine alters the normal flora of the colon leading to overgrowth of colitis causing bacteria. Close monitoring of the clinical condition is indicated. Consult your doctor if you experience diarrhoea, abdominal pain, blood in stools, etc.

Kidney diseases

Caution should be exercised while taking Gramocef-CV Dry Syrup in patients with kidney disease. This medicine gets excreted by the kidneys and impaired kidney increases the risk of accumulation of this medicine in the kidneys. This may lead to undesirable effects and may worsen the compromised kidneys. Close monitoring of kidney function is indicated.

How it works

Cefixime works by interfering with certain processes that help the bacteria to grow and increase in number. It destroys the outer protective layer of the bacteria. Clavulanic acid is effective against a specific species of bacteria that are resistant to other antibiotic medicines and also enhances the activity of the cefixime. Thus, the combination becomes effective against an extended range of bacteria.
