Description

Geristart Tablet PR is used in men to relieve the symptoms of an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia) such as painful urination, difficulty in passing urine, and urinary urgency or frequency. It is not recommended in patients with a known history of allergy to tamsulosin and patients with a risk of erectile dysfunction.

What is it prescribed for?

Benign prostatic hyperplasia

This medicine is used in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (prostate enlargement), a condition characterized by symptoms such as a weak urinary stream, difficulty urinating, loss of bladder control, etc.

General warnings

Hypotension

The use of this medicine may cause vasodilation and low blood pressure (hypotension), especially orthostatic hypotension or other postural symptoms such as dizziness, lightheadedness, and palpitations. Close monitoring of blood pressure levels is necessary while receiving this medicine. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required in some cases based on the clinical condition.

Glaucoma/Cataract surgery

The use of this medicine increases the risk of intraoperative floppy iris syndrome. Patients undergoing cataract and glaucoma surgery should inform the surgeon about the current or previous use of this medicine so that the surgeon can make appropriate changes in the surgical technique to reduce the risk of intraoperative floppy iris syndrome.

Women and children

This medicine is not indicated for use in women and children.

Driving or operating machinery

The use of this medicine may cause symptoms such as blurred vision, dizziness, drowsiness, etc. in some patients. It is advised that you do not perform any activities such as driving a vehicle or operating machinery if you experience any of these symptoms.

Priapism

This medicine may rarely cause a very painful erection which may not subside (priapism). Seek immediate medical attention if this happens. If priapism is not treated, it may lead to impotence.

Missed Dose

The missed dose should be taken as soon as possible. It is advisable to skip the missed dose if it is already the time for your next scheduled dose.
