Description

Elestra Tablet is a hormonal medicine containing Ethinyl Estradiol and Cyproterone. It is used to treat conditions like acne, alopecia (loss of hair), hirsutism (excessive facial hair growth in women), etc. Ethinyl estradiol has a very similar action to the female sex hormone, estrogen, produced by the ovaries. Thus it helps in treating irregular periods. Elestra Tablet is sometimes used for terminating a pregnancy. Do not use this medicine with other hormonal pills without consulting your doctor. Elestra Tablet may cause side effects like nausea, stomach pain, weight gain, headache, mood changes, etc. Consult your doctor if these side effects persist for a long time. Avoid taking Elestra Tablet if you are allergic to it. Elestra Tablet is a prescription medicine and should be taken only on doctors recommendation. It can be taken with or without food. It is advised to take this medicine at the same time every day. Do not take more or fewer doses than prescribed. Also, do not stop taking Elestra Tablet without consulting your doctor. Elestra Tablet is not recommended for use in children below 18 years of age. What is it prescribed for?

Androgenization

Androgen is a male sex hormone that helps in the development of male characteristics. A small amount of androgen may also be present in females for certain activities. Androgenization is a condition of overproduction of androgen in females resulting in facial hair growth, hair loss, etc. Elestra Tablet is used to treat symptoms of androgenization such as loss of scalp hair (alopecia), hirsutism (excessive hair growth in females - on the face, chest, back, etc.), androgen-dependent acne, etc.

Amenorrhoea

Amenorrhoea is a condition of absence of monthly menstruation in women, especially of childbearing age, due to the lack of progesterone in the body. It mainly occurs due to various reasons like hormone changes, stress, sudden weight loss, etc. Elestra Tablet is used in the treatment of Amenorrhoea.

How it works

Elestra Tablet is a combination of Ethinyl Estradiol and Cyproterone. Cyproterone helps in stopping the overproduction of androgen (male sex hormone) in the ovaries, thereby reducing unwanted hair growth and acne. Ethinyl Estradiol replaces or replenishes the hormone estrogen, helps treat irregular menses and also helps actions of Cyproterone.
