Description

Clavpod (100/62.5 mg/5 ml) Dry Syrup is a combination medicine used for treating a variety of bacterial infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract, urinary tract, and uncomplicated skin infections. This medicine is not recommended for use in infants less than 3 months of age.

What is it prescribed for?

Acute Bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis

This medicine is used in the treatment of an acute worsening of chronic bronchitis, an inflammation of the lining of the bronchial tubules, caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae or Haemophilus influenzae or some Mycoplasma pneumoniae.

Acute maxillary Sinusitis

This medicine is used in the treatment of acute maxillary sinusitis, an inflammation of the sinuses, caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, etc.

Community acquired pneumonia

This medicine is used in the treatment of an acute community-acquired pneumonia, which is a most common type of lung infection caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus Influenzae, etc.

Pharyngitis/Tonsilitis

This medicine is used in the treatment of Tonsillitis/Pharyngitis, which is an inflammation of the tonsils/throat, caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae or Haemophilus influenzae.

Urinary Tract Infection

This medicine is used in the treatment of infections of the urinary tract caused by Escherichia coli or Klebsiella pneumoniae or Staphylococcus saprophyticus or Proteus mirabilis.

Skin and Skin Structure Infection

This medicine is used in the treatment of uncomplicated infections of the skin and skin structures caused by bacteria. These infections may include infected wounds, folliculitis, abscesses, cellulitis, ulcers, etc.

Acute otitis media

This medicine is used in the treatment of an acute middle ear infection (otitis media) which may be caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, Haemophilus influenzae, etc.

General warnings

Clostridium difficile-associated Diarrhea

Discontinue the use of this medicine as per the doctor's instructions if severe diarrhea occurs after receiving this medicine. This medicine may cause an imbalance in the microbial flora of the large intestine, decreasing the gut-friendly bacteria and promoting the growth of a bacteria called Clostridium difficile, resulting in severe diarrhea.

Impaired Kidney function

This medicine should be used with caution in patients with an impaired kidney function due to the increased risk of severe adverse effects. Close monitoring of kidney function, appropriate dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary based on the clinical condition.

Drug resistance

Usage of this medicine without sufficient proof or suspicion of a bacterial infection should be avoided. Irrational dosing might fail in providing the benefits and even cause toxicity. It may also increase the risk of development of bacteria that are drug resistant.

Use in children

This medicine is not recommended for use in infants below the age of 3 months since the safety and efficacy of use are not clinically established.

How it works

Cefpodoxime works by interfering with certain processes that help the bacteria to grow and increase in number.
