Description

Cetil-CV 500 Tablet is an antibiotic consisting of cefuroxime and clavulanic acid. It is used to treat bacterial infections affecting the lungs, nose, throat, ears, skin and urinary tract. It works by interfering with the formation of the bacterial cell wall and eventually kills them. Cetil-CV 500 Tablet is not effective against infections caused by viruses. Cetil-CV 500 Tablet has some common side effects such as diarrhoea, stomach pain, headache, weakness, nausea, and vomiting. As this medicine may cause dizziness or drowsiness, avoid driving vehicles or operating machines. Do not take this medicine if you are previously allergic to it. Contact your doctor if any side effects are seen for a longer period. Cetil-CV 500 Tablet is not recommended for use in children below 12 years of age. Cetil-CV 500 Tablet can be taken with or without food. For the ease of remembering, take this tablet around the same time every day. Once an antibiotic is started, it is always recommended to finish the entire course of treatment. Do not take antibiotics without consulting your doctor because unnecessary use of an antibiotic can reduce its effectiveness. Cetil-CV 500 Tablet may interact with live vaccines. Hence, maintain a time gap of at least 2 hours between administration. Inform your doctor if you have any liver, kidney, seizure or gastrointestinal diseases before taking this medicine. If you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or are breastfeeding, It is recommended to take this medicine only after consulting your doctor.

What is it prescribed for?

Pharyngitis/Tonsilitis

Pharyngitis and tonsillitis are infections that cause swelling and soreness in the throat and tonsils. If the infection affects both the throat and the tonsils, it would be called pharyngotonsillitis. Cetil-CV 500 Tablet is used to treat pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and/or pharyngotonsillitis.

Sinusitis

Sinusitis is the swelling of membranes that line your nose and surrounding sinuses. It is often caused by bacteria and sometimes, viruses and fungi. You may experience a stuffed nose and pain or pressure behind your eyes, nose, cheeks, or forehead. Cetil-CV 500 Tablet is used to treat bacterial sinusitis and provides relief in three to eight weeks.

Acute bronchitis

Bronchitis is the swelling and irritation of bronchial tubes that regulates air passage in the lungs. Cetil-CV 500 Tablet is used to treat bronchitis caused by bacteria. It is also used to treat a sudden worsening of chronic bronchitis (long-term inflammation of the bronchi) and subsequent bronchitis episodes.

Skin and soft tissue infections

Skin and soft tissue infections occur when the bacteria invade the skin and its supporting structures. Cetil-CV 500 Tablet is used to treat all skin infections including abscess caused by bacteria.

Urinary tract infections

An infection in any part of your urinary system (kidneys, bladder, ureters, or urethra) is called a urinary tract infection (UTI). UTIs are the most common infections in humans and women are at greater risk of getting this infection. UTIs are caused by bacteria and in some cases, viruses or fungi. Cetil-CV 500 Tablet is used to treat uncomplicated urinary tract infections caused by bacteria.

Lyme disease

Lyme disease is an infection caused by Borrelia burgdorferi. This infection is spread to humans through the bite of infected black-legged ticks that carries the bacteria. This condition can be treated in a few weeks by using antibiotics. Cetil-CV 500 Tablet is used in the treatment of Lyme disease.

Diarrhoea

Cetil-CV 500 Tablet can cause diarrhoea because it may also kill the helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine. Inform your doctor if you experience severe diarrhoea while receiving this medicine.

Liver disease

Regular monitoring of the liver enzyme levels is recommended while taking Cetil-CV 500 Tablet and even after completion of the treatment with this medicine.

Antibiotic resistance

Antibiotic resistance occurs when bacteria develop the ability to defeat the medicine that was intended to kill them. Hence, to avoid such resistance you should always complete the entire course of treatment with Cetil-CV 500 Tablet even if you feel better after taking few doses.

Use in children

Cetil-CV 500 Tablet is not recommended for use in children below 12 years of age because the safety and efficacy data is not available.

Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction

Cetil-CV 500 Tablet may cause Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction in some patients when used for more than 7 days. The symptoms may include fever, chills, headache, low blood pressure, increased heart rate, etc.

Missed Dose

Do not skip any dose of Cetil-CV 500 Tablet. If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is delayed for more than 12 hours, skip the missed dose and take your next dose. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.

Overdose

Cetil-CV 500 Tablet is a combination of cefuroxime and clavulanic acid. Cefuroxime works by preventing the formation of bacterial cell walls, thereby stopping the infection to spread. Clavulanic Acid reduces resistance and enhances the activity of Cefuroxime against bacteria. It is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that blocks the action of certain enzymes of bacteria.
