Description

Centra 250 MG Tablet DT is an antibiotic medicine that contains cefuroxime. It is used to treat bacterial infections of the lungs, nose, throat, ears, skin, bladder, etc. It kills the bacteria, thereby stops the spread of the infection. It is also used to treat a sexually transmitted infection caused by Neisseria gonorrhoea bacteria that infects both men and women. Centra 250 MG Tablet DT is not effective against infections caused by viruses. Your doctor may advise this medicine alone or in combination with other medications to treat bacterial infections. Centra 250 MG Tablet DT may cause side effects like diarrhoea, stomach pain, headache, weakness, nausea, and vomiting. Contact your doctor if these side effects do not resolve by time. Avoid taking this medicine if you are previously allergic to it. Centra 250 MG Tablet DT is not recommended for use in children below 12 years of age. Centra 250 MG Tablet DT can be taken with food to avoid gastric irritation. The dose of the tablet will be decided by your doctor based on the severity of your infection. For the ease of remembering, take this tablet around the same time every day. Once an antibiotic is started, it is always recommended to finish the entire course of treatment. Taking an antibiotic when it is not required can make it less effective for future infections. Centra 250 MG Tablet DT desired effect may not be achieved when taken with medications like antacids or proton pump inhibitors. Therefore, take Centra 250 MG Tablet DT at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after taking such medications. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, before using Centra 250 MG Tablet DT.

What is it prescribed for?

Pharyngitis/Tonsilitis

Pharyngitis and tonsillitis are infections that cause swelling and soreness in the throat and tonsils. If it is the infection affects both the throat and the tonsils, then it would be called pharyngotonsillitis. Centra 250 MG Tablet DT is used to treat pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and/or pharyngotonsillitis.

Acute bacterial otitis media

Otitis media (AOM), is an infection of the middle ear (the area behind the eardrum), common in infants and young children. Centra 250 MG Tablet DT is used to treat acute otitis media caused by bacteria.

Sinusitis

Sinusitis is the swelling of membranes that line your nose and surrounding sinuses. It is often caused by bacteria and sometimes, viruses and fungi. You may experience a stuffed nose and pain or pressure behind your eyes, nose, cheeks, or forehead. Centra 250 MG Tablet DT is used to treat bacterial sinusitis and provides relief in three to eight weeks.

Bronchitis

Bronchitis is the swelling and irritation of bronchial tubes that regulates air passage in the lungs. Centra 250 MG Tablet DT is used to treat bronchitis caused by bacteria. It is also used to treat a sudden worsening of chronic bronchitis (long-term inflammation of the bronchi) and subsequent episodes of bronchitis.

Skin or soft tissue infection

Skin and soft tissue infections occur when the bacteria invade the skin and its supporting structures. Centra 250 MG Tablet DT is used to treat all skin infections including abscess caused by bacteria.

Urinary tract infections

An infection in any part of your urinary system- the kidneys, bladder, ureters, or urethra is called urinary tract infections (UTIs). UTIs are the most common infections in humans and woman are at greater risk of getting this infection. UTIs are caused by bacteria and in some cases, viruses or fungi. Centra 250 MG Tablet DT is used to treat urinary tract infections caused by bacteria.

Lyme disease

Lyme disease is an infection caused by Borrelia burgdorferi. This infection is spread to humans through the bite of infected black-legged ticks that carries the bacteria. This condition can be treated in a few weeks by using antibiotics. Centra 250 MG Tablet DT is used for the treatment of Lyme disease.

Gonorrhea

Gonorrhoea is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by Neisseria gonorrhoea bacteria that infects both men and women. It spreads during vaginal, oral or anal sex without a condom or other barrier method. Centra 250 MG Tablet DT is used to treat the gonococcal infection.

General warnings

Diarrhoea

Centra 250 MG Tablet DT can cause diarrhoea because it may also kill the helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine. Inform your doctor if you experience severe diarrhoea while receiving this medicine.

Antibiotic resistance

The entire course of treatment with Centra 250 MG Tablet DT should be completed, to avoid antibiotic resistance (microorganisms develop the ability to defeat the antibiotics) even if your condition gets better after taking few doses.

Driving or operating machinery

Centra 250 MG Tablet DT may cause dizziness, confusion, or fits. Do not drive a vehicle or operate machinery after taking this medicine.

Antacids

If you are taking an antacid containing aluminium and magnesium salts for indigestion, they can delay the effects of Centra 250 MG Tablet DT. Hence, it is recommended to take this medicine at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after taking antacids.

Missed Dose

Do not skip a dose of Centra 250 MG Tablet DT. If you forgot to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If the time for your next dose is near skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one.

Overdose

Never take more than the prescribed dose. Seek emergency medical attention if you suspect that you might have taken an overdose of Centra 250 MG Tablet DT.

Liver disease

Centra 250 MG Tablet DT may increase liver enzyme levels. Hence, maintain caution while taking Centra 250 MG Tablet DT as it can increase the risk of liver damage.

Seizure disorders
