Description

Cefoxim 125 MG Syrup is an antibiotic medicine that contains cefuroxime. It is used to treat bacterial infections of the lungs, nose, throat, ears, skin, bladder, etc. This medicine prevents infection by killing or stopping the growth of the bacteria. Cefoxim 125 MG Syrup is not effective against infections caused by viruses. Your doctor may advise Cefoxim 125 MG Syrup alone or in combination with other medications to treat bacterial infections. Cefoxim 125 MG Syrup shows some side effects like diarrhoea, stomach pain, headache, weakness, nausea, and vomiting. Do not use this medicine if your child is previously allergic to it. Consult your doctor if any side effects persist or bother your child. Cefoxim 125 MG Syrup is an effective medicine used in infants above 3 months of age. Cefoxim 125 MG Syrup can be given with or without food. Before administration, dissolve the powder in a glass of water. For the ease of remembering, give the dry syrup to your child at the same time every day. Once you started using this medicine for your child, ensure that the entire course of treatment is completed. Avoid unnecessary use of Cefoxim 125 MG Syrup as excessive use may cause the bacteria to become resistant to treatment. Cefoxim 125 MG Syrup may not be suitable for all children. Inform your paediatrician about your child’s complete medical history, including any previous episode of allergy, birth defects, heart, lung, gastrointestinal, liver or kidney problem. What is it prescribed for?

Sinusitis

Sinusitis is the swelling of membranes that line the nose and surrounding sinuses. It is often caused by bacteria and sometimes, viruses and fungi. Your child may experience a stuffed nose and pain or pressure behind your eyes, nose, cheeks, or forehead. Cefoxim 125 MG Syrup is used to treat bacterial sinusitis and provides relief in three to eight weeks.

Pharyngitis/Tonsilitis

Pharyngitis and tonsillitis are infections that cause swelling and soreness in the throat and tonsils. If it is the infection affects both the throat and the tonsils, then it would be called pharyngotonsillitis. Cefoxim 125 MG Syrup is used to treat pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and/or pharyngotonsillitis.

Acute bacterial otitis media

Otitis media (AOM), is an infection of the middle ear (the area behind the eardrum), common in infants and young children. Cefoxim 125 MG Syrup is used to treat acute otitis media caused by bacteria.

Skin and soft tissue infections

Skin and soft tissue infections occur when the bacteria invade the skin and its supporting structures. Cefoxim 125 MG Syrup is used to treat all skin infections including abscess caused by bacteria.

Urinary tract infections

Antibiotic resistance

The entire course of treatment with Cefoxim 125 MG Syrup should be completed, even if the condition of your child gets better after taking few doses to avoid antibiotic resistance.

Diarrhoea

Cefoxim 125 MG Syrup can cause diarrhoea because it may also kill the helpful bacteria in your child's stomach or intestine. Inform your doctor if your child experiences severe diarrhoea while receiving this medicine.

Use in infants

Cefoxim 125 MG Syrup is not recommended for use in infants below 3 months of age as the safety and efficacy data is unavailable.

Antacids

If you are giving antacid containing aluminium and magnesium salts for indigestion to your child, it can reduce the absorption of Cefoxim 125 MG Syrup by reducing the acidity level in the stomach. Therefore, it is recommended to give this antibiotic at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after giving antacids.

Seizures

Avoid using Cefoxim 125 MG Syrup or maintain caution if your child has any seizure episodes, as it can worsen his/her health condition. Your doctor may alter the dose of this medicine if required.

Missed Dose

If you forget to give a dose of Cefoxim 125 MG Syrup to your child, give it as soon as you remember. If the next dose time is nearer, do not double the dose to make up for the missed one.

Overdose

Cefoxim 125 MG Syrup may increase liver enzyme levels and cause liver swelling. Hence, maintain caution while giving Cefoxim 125 MG Syrup as it can increase the risk of liver damage.

Kidney diseases

Cefoxim 125 MG Syrup is filtered by the kidney and excreted through urine. Hence, maintain caution while using Cefoxim 125 MG Syrup if your child has any kidney disease as it can increase the risk of kidney damage.

Cefoxim 125 MG Syrup is used in treating bacterial infections. You can give this medicine with or without food as prescribed by your paediatrician. Dissolve the required amount of Cefoxim 125 MG Syrup in a glass of water. Make sure that your child takes the necessary volume of Cefoxim 125 MG Syrup. Make sure that you should complete the entire course of this medicine even if the symptoms disappear after few days. If you discontinue using this medicine for your child, there is a chance that the infection may recur. The reconstituted suspension may be stored under refrigeration (2 to 8 degrees Celsius) for a duration of 14 days. Keep away from the reach of children and pets. Do not use it after the expiry date. Ensure that unused medicine is disposed of properly. Do not recommend this medicine to other parents even if their child's condition appears to be the same.
