What is it prescribed for?

Lower Respiratory Tract Infection

This medicine may be used in the treatment of lower respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia, bronchitis, etc. caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, etc.

Skin and Skin Structure Infection

This medicine may be used in the treatment of uncomplicated infections of the skin and skin structures caused by bacteria. These infections may include infected wounds, folliculitis, abscesses, cellulitis, ulcers, etc.

Urinary Tract Infection

This medicine may be used in the treatment of uncomplicated urinary tract infections caused by bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus mirabilis, Escherichia coli, etc.

Bacterial Septicemia

This medicine may be used in the treatment of septicemia, which is an infection of the blood, caused by bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Haemophilus influenzae, Escherichia coli, etc.

How it works

Cefuroxime interferes with bacterial cell wall formation. Sulbactam inhibits some chemicals produced by the bacteria and makes the bacteria more sensitive to cefuroxime activity. Their combination thus becomes effective against an extended range of bacteria.
