Description
Asthakind-P Drops is a preparation that comes as drops used in relieving productive cough. It dissolves thick mucus formed in the air passages and makes it easier to cough out mucus made in your chest (phlegm). It helps relieve symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, breathing difficulties and coughing caused by bronchospasm (contraction of airways), bronchial asthma (airway path of the lungs to swell and narrow), chronic bronchitis (long-term inflammation of the bronchi), and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD- A group of lung diseases that block airflow and make it difficult to breathe), etc. Use Asthakind-P Drops only if advised by your physician.
You may experience certain side effects like headache, diarrhoea, blurred vision, nausea and vomiting, etc. Do not use Asthakind-P Drops if previously allergic to it. Complete the entire treatment course for the best results even if symptoms subside. Maintain caution in heart, kidney or liver impairment patients while using this medicine.
Take Asthakind-P Drops with or without food. Use this medicine with the doctor recommendation only. This medicine is not safe for use in pregnant women due to the fetal side effects. Hence tell your doctor if you are pregnant before using it.

What is it prescribed for?
Productive cough
A cough is a sudden response of the body when something irritates the throat or airways. Irritants such as smoke and gas, tobacco use, foreign particles or infection can stimulate nerves that send a message to the brain. Cough can be of 2 types- dry cough (absence of mucus) and productive cough (presence of mucus). Mucus is the thick sticky fluid that gets accumulated in the throat and causes difficulties in breathing with irritation. Asthakind-P Drops helps in expelling the mucous out when you cough up.
Bronchospasm
Bronchospasm is the spasm (contraction) of bronchial muscles resulting in narrowing of the bronchi. Due to this, there may be decreased airflow into the lungs. Asthakind-P Drops may be sometimes used to relieve the symptoms of bronchospasm such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, breathing difficulties, coughing, etc. in bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis, etc. In children aged 6 months to 2 years this medicine used to treat the conditions such as bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis, upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs), etc.

Allergy
Avoid using Asthakind-P Drops combination if previously allergic to any of the components of it and seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of serious allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulties, etc.
Gastric ulceration
Patients with a history of gastric ulceration should not take Asthakind-P Drops as it may worsen the patient's condition.
Stevens-Johnson syndrome
Do not use Asthakind-P Drops for patients with a history of Stevens-Johnson syndrome (a rare but serious disorder of the skin) due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition.

General warnings
Glaucoma
Patients with pre-existing glaucoma should maintain caution while consuming Asthakind-P Drops due to worsening of the patient's condition.
Hyperthyroidism
Patients with pre-existing hyperthyroidism should maintain caution while consuming Asthakind-P Drops due to worsening of the patient's condition. Close monitoring of thyroid hormone levels may be required.
Liver and/or kidney impairment
Caution is advised while using Asthakind-P Drops in patients with liver/kidney disease due to an increase in the risk of adverse effects in these patients.
Cough suppressants
Do not administer Asthakind-P Drops if you are using any other cough suppressants since they have opposite effects. Inform your physician before use.
Missed Dose
Try not to skip the scheduled dose of Asthakind-P Drops. If it's time for the next dose, do not double the dose.
Overdose
Reach the nearest emergency medical department immediately or contact the doctor in case of over dose intake of Asthakind-P Drops.

The use of Asthakind-P Drops has been associated with an increase in heart rate and changes in blood pressure. Hence caution should be maintained in children with an active or historic case of heart disease while using this medicine.
Diabetes
There may be a slight rise in the blood sugar levels while taking Asthakind-P Drops. Hence, caution should be exercised if the child is inborn diabetic, and regular monitoring of sugar levels are needed.
Seizures
Asthakind-P Drops should be administered with caution in children with seizure disorders as it may increase frequency and severity of convulsions are significantly high.
Hypokalemia
Asthakind-P Drops may decrease blood potassium levels (hypokalemia) in some patients with imbalanced potassium levels. Hence, always maintain caution while using.
